today is a labor day in the usa... What do people do ? Labor Day is a day of rest or the last chance for many people to go on trips before the summer ends. For students, it is the last chance to organize parties before school starts again. In some neighborhoods, people organize fireworks displays, barbecues and public arts or sports events. The football season starts on or around Labor Day and many teams play their first game of the year during Labor Day weekend.
Traditionally, people did not wear white clothes, particularly shoes, after Labor day. However, this custom is slowly dying out. More and more people now wear white all year round, rather than just in the summer. Similarly, it is the custom to wear a straw cowboy hat from Memorial Day until Labor Day, then a felt one until Memorial Day comes around again.
Many towns will hold parades. Businesses and individuals often make floats to help celebrate, which drive in the parade. Marching bands from local schools usually join in on the celebrations. Some people go to the park with family and friends. The park is a wonderful place have a picnic. Many people get together with friends and family for barbeques in their backyards, in parks or at beaches. Some people choose to hit the beach on Labor Day, as it's usually the last visit of the season for many. Bringing coolers and food, people set up tents and usually spend all day celebrating with friends and family. Some people use this day as a day to shop. Many retailers use this holiday to hold store-wide sales for consumers.
In summary Families celebrate Labor day by going to fairs or parades, having backyard barbecues, going to the beach or on a picnic, and generally doing those things that is impossible to do like spend more time with your family.
"To many people, Labor Day means a three-day weekend. Picnics, barbecues, a farewell to summer -- and one last hurrah before the new school year gets underway in earnest.
But Labor Day, which always takes place on the first Monday in September, was created to honor the contributions of the nation's working men and women and their achievements. Here's how the U.S. Labor Department describes the holiday: "It constitutes a yearly national tribute to the contributions workers have made to the strength, prosperity and well-being of our country.""
El Salvador.and the rest of the world celebrates Labor Day on May 1st...the difference is that in the US they celebrate all their holidays on Mondays so they get 3 days:Saturday,Sunday and Monday off! Intelligent decision, don't you think?
